Jumia Black Friday Deal Of The Year In Kenya Now or Never

Jumia Number One Online retail store took advantage of Kenya’s price conscious consumers and the growing preference to shop online to offer more than 8,000 items on discount during the ‘Black Friday’ sale on 27th of   November 2015 next Friday  .
Jumia offers  special deals and discounts of up to 90 per cent on fashion wear, electronics and home appliances as a strategy to hook Kenyans onto the shopping crazy Deals  associated with ‘Black Friday.’

Black Friday, the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the US, is fast gaining currency in Kenya as witnessed by the growing number of retailers who offered massive discounts to woo shoppers.
“The feedback we got from our customers during ‘Black Friday’ was overwhelming. We are so excited to have successfully brought Black Friday to Kenya and provided Kenyans with the best deals they have ever seen,” said Parinaz Firozi, managing director at Jumia Kenya.
She attributed the high sales on the free shipping Jumia offers to customers located within the Nairobi.
Jumia said television sets topped the list of most purchased goods on its web portal during the weekend sale followed by fashion wear, smart phones, laptops, home appliances and sports equipment.
Ms Firozi attributed the high sales to the cheap prices offered during the Black Friday sale, saying that online sales is a volume game that rides on low operating costs.
For example, Jumia offered a 32 inch Skyworth TV at Sh9,999 down from the original price of Sh26,000, and a Toshiba 7-inch tablet offered at Sh5,000 down from Sh23,499.
The online retailer said Nairobi shoppers dominated the sales followed by Mombasa and Nakuru. There were also orders from other regions like Nyeri, Eldoret, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Garrisa.
Half of Black Friday buyers paid in cash with Safaricom’s M-Pesa accounting for 40 per cent of payments and the remainder used credit cards.

“Credit card uptake is yet to pick up in Kenya, mostly used by the middle class, upper, high end but expatriates form the biggest percentage of people using the cards for payment,” Jumia said.

Jumia was co-founded in 2012 by French techie Jeremy Hodara as an Africa-focused online retailer.
